Slurry Concentrator
Development of a slurry concentrator with continuous total nitrogen data collection
The Slurry Concentrator operational group is addressing manure management, a pressing concern for farmers, especially those operating smaller to medium-sized farms. With a focus on optimising the use of manure as fertiliser and potentially extending its reach to nutrient-deficient areas, the group has developed an innovative solution.
By using concentrator technology, they’ve devised a method to produce two distinct liquid fractions from manure. The first fraction consists of a semi-liquid phase, enriched with organic matter and essential nutrients, ideal for application in fields located at a distance where nutrient availability is limited. Meanwhile, the second fraction, featuring a lower nutrient concentration, is designated for use in nearby fields. This strategic differentiation not only minimises transportation costs but also ensures a more precise and efficient application of nutrients across varied agricultural landscapes. Moreover, by streamlining the equipment used for both fractions, the group has succeeded in enhancing operational efficiency while significantly reducing investment and operational expenses for farmers. The implementation of this system allows for improved monitoring and precision in nutrient application, supplemented by online devices that track the nutrient content of the liquid fraction.
