Turning ammonia emissions into sustainable fertiliser: Our new animation

Ammonia is a major issue in pig farming. It is released from pig slurry and accumulates in barns, harming the respiratory health of animals and farm workers. If left untreated, it also escapes into the environment, contributing to air pollution. Traditional ventilation systems exchange air in pig houses but do not capture or treat ammonia emissions. That’s where the innovation from the Operational Group (OG) Gas Loop steps in.

What is the Gas Loop solution?

Gas Loop is an advanced air-washing system designed to capture ammonia directly from the air inside pig barns. Instead of allowing it to escape, the system extracts ammonia and absorbs it using a sulfuric acid solution. The captured ammonia is transformed into ammonium sulphate—a valuable liquid fertiliser that can be used in crop production.

Why choose Gas Loop?

Gas Loop reduces ammonia emissions by up to 62%, significantly improving air quality in pig barns. Healthier air means healthier pigs and farm workers. Additionally, the ammonium sulphate fertiliser can replace synthetic alternatives, saving farmers money while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
